Mica Marbles circa late 1800s
Mica marbles are clear glass marbles with silvery metal flakes inside. As you can see from the photo they come in a variety of colors, with red being especially rare.
Thank yo for providing this information about mica marbles. I discovered what i believe to be a mica marble in the ashes of a burned house. I had never seen such a marble. I have just spent several hours on the web searching for an accurate description of it. The marble I found is a very bright golden yellow that sparkles inside, but it also has an 'aurora borealis' finish to the outer glass. Does this sound like something known to you? In any case, it is beautiful and I am happy to see that it may be quite old. I will put it with my other marbles and enjoy it.
