From what I remember my uncle Jeffrey would use color dye and mix it with epoxy and laminate pieces of fiberglass. He would essentially create a rough cube. Then he would slice the cube and rotate the pieces to create the cross sections. And then somehow by hand he would shape and polish the material into a perfect sphere. This was all done by hand. I haven't found any unfinished ones yet, but I can clearly remember them.
